Today’s Top Golf News in Two Minutes

Good Morning,

Golf fans have been buzzing about the resurgence of American dominance in major championships. The Americans are on a seven-major winning streak, a feat not seen since the 1970s. They swept all four majors in 2020 and have repeated this clean sweep for the first time since 1982. Xander Schauffele's recent triumph at the British Open at Royal Troon has added fuel to this impressive run. However, with the LIV Golf League returning, we'll have to wait a few months to see stars like Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, and Bryson DeChambeau back in major action. In other news, Laura Davies has opted out of the Women's British Open, while Hideki Matsuyama continues his streak of making cuts in majors, now stretching over three seasons.

Keegan Bradley has made a significant move for the 2025 Ryder Cup by naming Webb Simpson as his first vice captain. Simpson, with his seven PGA Tour wins and three Ryder Cup appearances, brings a wealth of experience to the team. More vice captain announcements are expected soon.

In junior golf, Charlie Woods faced a tough debut at the US Junior Amateur, missing the cut after a challenging opening round at Oakland Hills. Despite a strong second round, he ended the tournament 22-over. With three more years of eligibility, there's still plenty of time for Charlie to make his mark.

Viewership for The Open's final round hit a nine-year low, with only 3.39 million tuning in. This continues a trend of fluctuating viewership across major tournaments, despite the US Open setting an 11-year record. The PGA Tour has seen mixed results in viewership this season as well.

This week, the golf world is abuzz with several tournaments. The 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities in Minnesota features defending champion Lee Hodges, and other notables like Tony Finau and Keegan Bradley. Finau, looking to bounce back after missing the cut at the Open Championship, is eager to continue his strong form at a tournament where he has previously excelled. Wesley Bryan's 16-hour drive to the 3M Open after a flight cancellation adds a touch of drama to the event.

On the LPGA Tour, the 2024 CPKC Women’s Open is set to begin at the historic Earl Grey Golf Club in Calgary. The event, celebrating its 50th year, features top contenders like Brooke Henderson, Lilia Vu, and defending champion Megan Khang. Henderson, a fan favorite and Canada's most successful professional golfer, is especially in the spotlight as she aims to improve her recent performances.

The LIV Golf UK tournament at the JCB Golf & Country Club is about to get underway, with big names like Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, and Brooks Koepka competing. Crushers GC leads the team power rankings, while Joaquin Niemann tops the individual standings.

The Senior Open presented by Rolex returns to Carnoustie Golf Links, known for its challenging layout. Alex Čejka, the defending champion, is preparing to tackle the "beast" of Carnoustie. Paul Lawrie, drawing on his 1999 Open victory at Carnoustie, is also in the field, looking to leverage his familiarity with the course.

In the Korn Ferry Tour, the NV5 Invitational at The Glen Club in Glenview, Illinois, features rising stars aiming to secure their PGA TOUR cards. Defending champion Trace Crowe and other top players like Matt McCarty and Tim Widing are expected to put on a show.

Looking ahead, the 2024 Paris Olympics golf events will feature 120 players competing for medals at Le Golf National. The men's event kicks off on August 1, followed by the women's event on August 7. Nelly Korda, the reigning Olympic gold medalist, is favored to win again, with strong competition from Jin Young Ko and Rouning Yin.

Golf fans have much to look forward to with these exciting tournaments and events. Whether it's the intense competition on the PGA and LPGA Tours, the historic significance of the Senior Open, or the global stage of the Olympics, there's something for everyone to enjoy. Keep an eye on these thrilling developments as the season progresses.
