Today’s Top Golf News in Two Minutes

Good Morning,

In the world of golf this weekend, there's a mixture of high stakes and high emotions. At the RBC Heritage, Scottie Scheffler is making headlines not just for his impressive score of 16-under par after a stunning 8-under 63 round, but also because he's on baby watch. Yes, his wife, Meredith, is due to give birth any day now, adding a layer of personal excitement beyond the fairways.

Scheffler, who has already claimed titles at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, The Players Championship, and most recently, the Masters, is looking to continue his spectacular form despite the looming possibility of dashing off to be by his wife's side. His main competition includes Sepp Straka, trailing closely behind, and Collin Morikawa, who's determined to challenge Scheffler's lead by staying focused on his own game plan.

Meanwhile, over at the Chevron Championship, the LPGA tour is facing its own challenges with the weather. Thunderstorms have caused delays, impacting players like Nelly Korda, who is chasing her fifth straight victory, and Brooke Henderson, who surged up the leaderboard with an impressive performance before the suspension. The tournament promises an intriguing finish as play resumes.

In another part of the golf world, the Corales Puntacana Championship in the Dominican Republic sees Wesley Bryan holding a one-shot lead and aiming for his second PGA victory, amidst tough competition from players like Kevin Tway.

And it's not just about the pros. The Invited Celebrity Classic in Texas has had to adjust its schedule due to inclement weather, turning the event into a 36-hole competition, adding an unexpected twist to the weekend's events.

This weekend in golf is packed with action both on and off the course, reflecting both the unpredictability of the sport and the personal lives of its players. Whether it's Scottie Scheffler balancing impending fatherhood with championship ambitions, Nelly Korda fighting for a record-equaling victory, or Wesley Bryan seeking a tour comeback, there's no shortage of drama and excitement. Let's see who ends up capturing the headlines by this evening!

Golf Tournaments happening this week

RBC Heritage

Saturday at the RBC Heritage, Scottie Scheffler demonstrated exceptional skill, leading the tournament with a score of 16 under after shooting an 8-under 63. This performance places him one stroke ahead of his closest competitor, Sepp Straka, as he aims for his fourth win in his last five starts. Collin Morikawa is also in contention, currently standing at 15 under, just one stroke behind Scheffler, setting up a potential final-round showdown reminiscent of their recent pairing at the Masters. Ludvig Åberg, another notable player in the tournament, experienced a slight setback, dropping a shot which widened Scheffler's lead to two strokes. The competition remains intense, with several players, including Rory McIlroy, still within striking distance but needing strong final rounds to challenge for the lead.

Chevron Championship

The third round of The Chevron Championship in the LPGA was suspended due to dangerous weather conditions. Play will resume on Sunday, April 21 at 7:00 a.m. CT. Once the third round is completed, players will be repaired by score for the final round, which will have starting times from 9:20-11:31 a.m. CT.

Nelly Korda, seeking her fifth straight victory, trails by one after play was suspended. She will have to play 25 holes on Sunday and contend with heavyweight contenders to extend her streak. Atthaya Thitikul currently holds a one-stroke lead.

The Corales Puntacana Championship

Saturday, the Corales Puntacana Championship continued with its third round of competition at the Corales Golf Course in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Wesley Bryan leads, shooting a six-under 66 second round to hold a one-shot lead over Justin Lower. Bryan, playing on a sponsor exemption, set a 36-hole tournament record at 15-under 129. Bill Haas and Charley Hoffman are tied for fourth, while Nicolai Hojgaard missed the cut.

The Invited Celebrity Classic

The second round of the Invited Celebrity Classic has been canceled due to inclement weather in Irving, Texas. The event will now be a 36-hole competition with no formal cut. Thomas Bjørn holds the 18-hole lead with four golfers one stroke behind him.
