Today’s Top Golf News in Three Minutes
Good Morning,
It’s a slow week in the golf world as there is only one major tournament taking place. But there are plenty of updates on key tournaments, players, and even some exciting changes in the works for golf events around the globe.
Greg Norman recently shared insights on his role with LIV Golf, mentioning that his contract runs through August 2025. While Norman has been vocal about the friction LIV Golf faced, he still holds out hope for a collaborative relationship with the PGA Tour to bring more unity to the sport. He acknowledged how the unique LIV format and funding have stirred debate in the golf community, but he’s firm in his commitment to LIV’s mission.
The prestigious Ryder Cup is generating buzz for its 2031 location, with Spain making a strong case to host after a lengthy campaign. The Camiral Golf and Wellness resort has emerged as the likely venue, with backing from the Catalan government. Spain has bounced back from prior setbacks and now vies with England for the honor, with an official decision expected soon. If successful, this could bring the excitement of the Ryder Cup back to Spain for the first time since 1997.
Meanwhile, five impressive young golfers are in the running for the 2024 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year award. Matthieu Pavon, Nick Dunlap, Jake Knapp, Michael Thorbjornsen, and Alejandro Tosti have all had standout seasons, with notable achievements including Pavon’s historic win as the first Frenchman on the PGA Tour since 1907 and Dunlap’s groundbreaking victory as an amateur. The vote for this year’s top rookie will be decided by fellow PGA Tour players, adding a personal layer to the award.
Across the globe, the LPGA Tour heads to Japan for the TOTO Japan Classic, which promises thrilling competition on the scenic Seta Golf Course. Celebrating its 50th anniversary, the TOTO Japan Classic offers a significant $2 million purse and draws both LPGA and JLPGA talent. Defending champion Mone Inami returns, hoping to repeat last year’s inspiring win. With its unique mix of local and international players, this tournament is a highlight on the LPGA’s Asia swing.
And back in the U.S., the Charles Schwab Cup Championship in Phoenix will wrap up the PGA Tour Champions season, gathering the top 36 players for this senior circuit finale. Ernie Els currently leads the standings, closely followed by Steven Alker and Stephen Ames. The event’s 72-hole format and high-stakes atmosphere promise an exciting conclusion to the season beginning next Friday.
On the PGA Tour, Rickie Fowler is determined to improve his FedEx Cup ranking following a fourth-place finish at the Zozo Championship. With a few events left, Fowler’s aiming to secure a strong position for the 2025 season. Meanwhile, European Tour graduates have been making waves this season, with several securing wins and moving into competitive positions for next year’s tour playoffs.
The latest developments show how vibrant and diverse the global golf scene is, from rising rookies to legacy tournaments making moves around the world. Whether through fresh talent, historic tournaments, or exciting updates in the format, golf fans have plenty to watch and cheer for in the coming weeks.

TOTO Japan Classic - LPGA - Seta Golf Course, Shiga, Japan
The TOTO Japan Classic is set to take place from October 31 to November 3, 2024, at the Seta Golf Course in Otsu-shi, Shiga, Japan. This prestigious event is the only official LPGA Tour tournament held in Japan and marks its 50th anniversary this year.
The tournament features a strong field of 78 top players from both the LPGA Tour and the JLPGA Tour, promising an exciting competition. The Seta Golf Course, a par-72 layout measuring 6,616 yards, will host the event.
With a purse of $2 million and a winner's share of $300,000, the TOTO Japan Classic represents a significant opportunity for players to earn points in the Race to the CME Globe. The tournament is part of the LPGA Tour's Asia swing and attracts global attention.
Last year's champion, Mone Inami, will be defending her title. Her victory in 2023 was particularly noteworthy as it marked her first LPGA Tour win at this co-sanctioned event. The tournament has a rich history of producing notable winners, including Annika Sorenstam, who famously won five consecutive titles from 2001 to 2005.
The TOTO Japan Classic serves as an important bridge between the LPGA and JLPGA tours. It provides a platform for Japanese players to showcase their talents on an international stage and for LPGA Tour regulars to compete in front of enthusiastic Japanese fans.
As the LPGA Tour continues to grow globally, the TOTO Japan Classic remains a key stop on the international circuit. With its long-standing tradition and the convergence of top talent from around the world, this year's tournament is poised to add another exciting chapter to its storied history.
